SPAIN - COSTA DORADA
The Costa Dorada is one of the most beautiful regions of the Spanish coast. With its privileged setting, it is a land rich in varied landscapes, with a vast coastal fringe bathed in the Mediterranean, and colourful inland country of cultivated fields dotted with pretty, peaceful villages.
To visitors who come to explore, the Costa Dorada has much more to offer than just sun and beaches, it offers leisure, culture, history and nature. It's the perfect place for a family holiday and to relax in magnificent surroundings.
GASTRONOMY
The Costa Dorada is fortunate from a gastronomic point of view. Its location and climate provide a perfect mix of the best seafood and land produce to create a distinctive cuisine with Mediterranean style. The typical ingredients of the Mediterranean diet, such as olive oil, fish and seafood, vegetables, game and nuts such as almonds and hazelnuts, form the basis of cuisine in Costa Dorada.
On the coast, the high quality seafood-based cuisine is provided by the excellent produce from the Mediterranean. The fishermans' quarter of Serrallo de Tarragone, the Cambrils fishing port or the sea-faring quarter of Torredembarra are the best places to enjoy romescos, seafood rice, fideuas, paellas and every kind of steamed or grilled crustaceans and seafood. Inland, enjoy typical Catalan dishes such as olla barrejada, pigs' trotters with snails, partridge casserole or omelette served in a sauce.
SPAIN - COSTA BRAVA
Costa Brava is the name given to the Spanish coast on the Mediterranean, in the North-East of Catalonia, in the Province of Gerona.
Costa Brava means "wild coast", in reference to its jagged rocky coastline.
The Catalan coast then saw the development of several seaside resorts such as Port-Bou, Colera, Llançà, El Port de la Selva, Cadaqués, Rosas, Empuriabrava, Sant Pere Pescador, Escala, Estartit, Begur, Palafrugell, Palamós, Platja d' Aro, Agaró, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Blanes.
GASTRONOMY
The cooking is very rich and varied. However, it is difficult to classify it because of the gastronomic (and cultural) differences that exist between the various regions of the country.
There are several regional dishes which have developed to the point of being recognized at the national level (such as paella). The cocido (casserole in Spanish) is a dish which is found all over the country, with variants for each area (Madrid, Galicia, Maragato, etc.)
Naturally, olive oil is the basis of Spanish cooking, with Spain being the leading producer in the world of this product. Sweet pepper, garlic, tomato and onion are also used; these ingredients form the base of most of the cooked dishes.
