Florence (in Italian Firenze) is a city in Italy, the capital of the Tuscany region and chief town of the province.

GASTRONOMY

Tuscan cooking is done using olive oil since it is the region producing the best olive oil in the country, and even the whole world.
Bistecca, a dish typical of Florence, is a grilled steak seasoned with oil, salt and pepper.

If you come to Tuscany in summer and you do not feel hungry enough to devour a wonderful piece of meat like the bistecca, you can enjoy a minestrone alla fiorentina, which is a thick vegetable soup.

Among the other specialities of the region, try the fagioli all' uccelletto, baked beans with tomato sauce, cacciucco (fish soups), and the panforte from Sienna, a succulent cake with honey, almonds and candied fruits.
The best known wines of this region are Chianti, Brunello de Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, Vernacchia and the sweet Vin Santo wine.
